Barbara Lucas

Meet the Assistant Principal

Ms. Lucas’ education began at St. Gabriel Catholic School in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. She is a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Mound Bayou, MS. Her college education began at Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi. She is a three time graduate from Delta State University, where she received a B.A. in Business Administration, Master’s degree in School Counseling, Education Specialist Degree in Education Leadership. She is All but Dissertation (ABD) in obtaining her Education Doctorate Degree, Ed.D., in Education Leadership. She has 25 years of experience in education.

Ms. Lucas has served in the following educational positions in the State of Mississippi, in the Delta area; Guidance Counselor, District Test Coordinator, Assistant Principal, Principal, Vocational Counselor, Athletic Director, Adjunct Professor, School Improvement Specialist, Assistant Superintendent, Federal Programs Director, SPED Director, CTE Director, Curriculum Director, Technology Coordinator, Homeland Security Coordinator, Social Emotional Learning Coordinator (SEL) and ERATE Coordinator.

Ms. Lucas believes that it is the responsibility of School and District leaders to support teachers to ensure that they are provided with every tool and opportunity to effectively teach children. School and District leaders’ jobs are extremely difficult, but teachers have the most important jobs in growing each child one step at a time.

Ms. Lucas live by Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Her educational motto is, “Teamwork makes the Dream Work.” 

Ms. Lucas is the daughter of the late James and Mattie Pearl Sanders, in Mound Bayou, Ms. She currently resides in Cleveland, MS. She has two adult children, Vada Penson Lucas, Jr., and Valerie Patreece Lucas Spearman. Ms. Lucas has five grandchildren.
